The real dirt

Ok, so now we've posted lots of cute pics and said lots of nice things about Emily. While she's sleeping I have a minute to dish the real dirt. This kid cries. Alot. She's awake for about 7 hours a day, and I would estimate that she is crying for 5 of those hours. She demands to be held at all times, and if we put her down after she falls asleep she wakes up within minutes.

Dave and I are constantly going through the list of "things that could be wrong" which include dirty diaper, too hot, too cold, hungry, bored, gassy, etc. etc. Sometimes there is no apparent reason for the crying, yet it goes on and on whether we are holding her or not.

Several people have suggested that we'll just have to let her "cry it out". I see several problems with this. As a new mom, I worry that something really is wrong. I would feel awful if I just let her cry and cry rather than at least attempting to ease her pain. Besides that, crying is her only way of communicating with us. How could I possibly ignore my daughter's only means of communication? And last but certainly not least, if Emily is crying because she wants to be held and comforted, how could I possibly ignore that?

I guess we'll just wait this out. Her occasional smiles make this all worthwhile. Despite the crying, I still love her more than chocolate cake. And cheese.

A crying baby, life of a new parent, I remember that well. Here is some advise, don't worry so much, learn to accept this period and run with it. Emily will, and I promise you, stop the crying. Her little body is just getting use to the real world. You make have to make some changes to her diet. I believe you are breast feeding which is wonderful but she may still something more. Talk to your doctor.

You are doing a great job Mom and Dad. I am happy to hear that you are experiencing parenthood just like the rest of us :). Emily is a beautiful, precious, adorable princess, she is just learning early, how to get mommy and daddy's attention. Go with your instincts and do what you feel is best for your family. I am so proud of you both and I LOVE the cheese comment...haha
