Ok, so now we've posted lots of cute pics and said lots of nice things about Emily. While she's sleeping I have a minute to dish the real dirt. This kid cries. Alot. She's awake for about 7 hours a day, and I would estimate that she is crying for 5 of those hours. She demands to be held at all times, and if we put her down after she falls asleep she wakes up within minutes.
Dave and I are constantly going through the list of "things that could be wrong" which include dirty diaper, too hot, too cold, hungry, bored, gassy, etc. etc. Sometimes there is no apparent reason for the crying, yet it goes on and on whether we are holding her or not.
Several people have suggested that we'll just have to let her "cry it out". I see several problems with this. As a new mom, I worry that something really is wrong. I would feel awful if I just let her cry and cry rather than at least attempting to ease her pain. Besides that, crying is her only way of communicating with us. How could I possibly ignore my daughter's only means of communication? And last but certainly not least, if Emily is crying because she wants to be held and comforted, how could I possibly ignore that?
I guess we'll just wait this out. Her occasional smiles make this all worthwhile. Despite the crying, I still love her more than chocolate cake. And cheese.

5 weeks old!
OK, So i've been meaning to post lots of pictures so that everyone can get a good look at Miss Emily. The first few pictures below were taken yesterday on her 5 week birthday. The rest are just random pics that we've taken along the way. Some of them have a story but the rest just showcase our lovely, adorable, beautiful, fantastic daughter...

Emily was so mad that we were taking a picture of her when her hat didn't match her outfit!
√
Sometimes you've got to do an emergency diaper change in the trunk. What more can I say?

The adorable pants in the picture below caused big problems on mother's day. Emily hated the pants and I loved them. She cried and cried (and cried) until we took them off. I insisted that we get a picture so that we could remember the moment. I guess this was our first mother-daughter spat. :)

Our first month with Emily!
We can barely believe it but we've just completed our first month of parenthood! What a crazy journey! Dave and I have learned so much over the last several weeks. Just when we thought we had seen it all, Emily started her second month on earth by pooping up her back! Her onesie and her blanket were all soaked through! EWW! I was so amused and amazed that I interrupted Dave during his workday just to show him. I will spare you the pictures but just trust that it was really something else!
Emily got to meet lots of friends and family last month. While her Grandma, Pop-Pop, Auntie Laura and Uncle Jeffie-poo were visiting she got to visit the Space Needle, ride the Monorail and see West Lake Center! It was so much fun. We were very sad to see them go and we hope that they come back soon.
For those of you who haven't got to meet Emily or don't get to see her often, I'll share some things about her that I've already fallen in love with. Please note that these are in no particular order, I love them all equally!
I love when Emily drinks so much milk that she becomes what I call "milk drunk". When she is milk drunk her head bobs around, her eyes are barely open and she often has milk all over her face. It is so dang cute!

I love when she wakes up from a nap and has a big yawn and a big stretch. It's as if she's just had the best sleep of her life!

I love when she smiles. Some people would argue that this is just gas, but Dave and I know in our hearts that she's really just responding to our goofiness! The smiles are especially nice because they give us a tiny glimpse into how beautiful she's going to be!!

I love when I am rocking her to sleep and we have time to stare into each others eyes. During this time it almost feels like she is as happy to have me as I am about having her. Of course there are lots and lots of things that I just adore about her!
All these baby moments are so priceless!

My first blog!!
As many of you know Emily Dawn joined us on April 22 at 8:04 PM. She weighed in at 8.1 oz and was 20 inches long. I figure since we're now a small family and we've got family and friends all over the place, it'd be a good idea to chronicle our crazy exciting lives. We'll try to share lots of pictures so that everyone can share our joy and excitement as Emily grows up. There should be some exciting times ahead!!
